Support and Mobility Canes

One of the oldest service projects offered by the Lions of North Carolina is providing support and mobility canes to the blind and visually impaired citizens of North Carolina. These canes are given, free of charge, to any blind or visually impaired individual in North Carolina upon their request.

An individual requesting a cane for the first time should be seen by an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. They will interview the individual to determine what type of cane is needed and will measure the individual to ensure that the cane fits properly. Training in use of the cane will be provided.

Lions are encouraged to deliver replacements canes. This is great opportunity to visit with the individual and to determine if there are other needs the Lions can help with.
